Chaplaincy

Dear Friends of the Chaplaincy, Happy Birthday! This year The Law Enforcement Chaplaincy— Sacramento (LEC-S) will be celebrating 30 years, which is quite a milestone for these unsung heroes. LEC-S is a nonprofi t 501© organization with a mission to support law enforcement families in professional and personal crisis and serve the community of the Greater Sacramento Region in times of crisis and tragedies.

WHO ARE THE CHAPLAINS?

LAW ENFORCEMENT CHAPLAINS: are fi rst responders to law enforcement personnel, their families and their departments. Professionalism, credibility, accessibility, and availability, 24/7/365 to serve, Law Enforcement Chaplains must be ordained, licensed or commissioned to maintain the confi dentiality that have been the foundation to the Chaplaincy. They have trained in POST certifi ed Peer Support and Chaplain Curriculum as well as Critical Incident Stress Management., many of them are active or retired law enforcement or has a family member in law enforcement.

COMMUNITY CHAPLAINS: serve our fi rst responders by assisting them on scene with traumatized citizens affected by crimes or other traumatic incidents. Chaplains come from a very broad racial, sectarian, geographical and socioeconomic crosssection of the Sacramento region, Chaplains serve all people.

WHAT KIND OF INCIDENTS DO CHAPLAINS RESPOND?
Every month in Sacramento County the Chaplaincy responds to a very wide variety of traumatic events including, homicides or suspicious deaths, suicides, sudden infant death, child deaths, sexual assaults, traffi c collisions, barricaded subjects, kidnappings, industrial accidents, domestic violence, death notifi cations, child, spouse or elder abuse and many others.WHAT DO CHAPLAINS DO? As fi rst responders trained in crisis care, the chaplain’s role is distinctly different of clinical counselors and congregational clergy. In addition to providing a comforting presence during the worst times of people’s lives, the chaplain’s role may also include stress debriefi ng and defusing, provision of informal counseling, and resources, arrangement for emergency food, clothing, transportation, and/or shelter, and referral to a broad network of public and private agencies. Chaplains follow up to check on victim’s welfare and provide additional emotional support, administrative guidance or other assistance as may be appropriate.

HOW ARE WE FUNDED?
Although our services are free, it costs to be available 24/7/365. A large percentage of law enforcement families take ownership of this ministry through payroll deductions, United Way (#3057) and donations sent to our offi ce. We know people support the organizations they connect with- we would like you to get connected with us. We also host the 14th ANNUAL SACRAMENTO LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL MOTORCYCLE RUN raising monies for the Chaplaincy and other charities. For further information on how you can help, participate in the, or fi nancially support this mission, please contact the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Sacramento offi ce at (916) 857-1801. Serving those who serve and protect,
